The Philippine Society of Education and Philosophy (PhilSEP) was established to promote the field of philosophy of education in the Philippines. We do this by providing platforms for philosophers of education and educational theorists across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to exchange and test ideas, collaborate on research, and disseminate their scholarly work related to the field of philosophy of education. We also create opportunities to mentor junior researchers in the field, including graduate and undergraduate students.
The society hopes to magnify Philippine local knowledge and indigenous philosophies as it pertains to educational questions. We aim to provide spaces for interdisciplinary conversation about philosophy of education between philosophers, education researchers, education policymakers, and educational practitioners for the purpose of advancing educational policy and practice. We also aim to promote international collaboration between Philippine-based philosophers of education and their counterparts across the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world.
To support and promote the above ends, we organize conferences, seminars, workshops, and other events. Since our founding in February 2024, we have organized a national conference on philosophy and education (in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas Department of Philosophy) and a webinar series. In November 2025, we are partnering with the UP Diliman Department of Philosophy to to organize our second conference.
Our 2024 conference, co-organized with the University of Santo Tomas, was held last Sept. 20 to 21, 2024.
Details of our 2025 webinar series are published on our Facebook page. Our webinars are open to all paid members of PhilSEP.
The Call for Papers for the 2025 conference has been released! The conference will be in November 2025, at UP Diliman!
